United are temporarily back on top of the league with a not-so-classy win over Wolverhampton.
Wolves had control of possession over large periods of the match. Deprived of Rooney and Owen, United couldn’t get hold of the game and were, at times, a team completely lost in the last portion of the match. Wolves put together a spirited side and their scrappy approach to the game was almost too much for United to handle.
A goal by Paul Scholes 73 minutes into the match gave United a lead, that although undeserved puts them ahead of Chelsea and clear in first place, at least until the Blues play tomorrow. A positive note to Nani, who returned to the side and got the assist for the goal.
