Wolverhampton fined for resting players against United

The FA fined Wolverhampton over £25 thousand for rotating several players in a match against Manchester United last December.

Wolves left 10 of their most used players out of the starting 11, and lost 0-3. Boss Mick McCarthy justified it by “merely rotating players”, since he’d have a match against Bolton a few days later – match that McCarthy deemed more important, because both teams fight fot the same objective. Wolves went on to beat Bolton 2-0.

The FA Feels that Wolverhampton didn’t hold true to two articles in its regulation, by not lining up the best possible team and not respecting its duties with other clubs and the Premier League sponsors. McCarthy says he accepts the decision of the ruling body, but assures fans and everyone involved that he never meant to break the rules.
