World Cup 2010: Uruguay 2-1 Korea Republic

by Joao

The match

Uruguay and Korea Republic, or South Korea, presented us with a very entertaining match. Uruguay got the opening goal in the 8th minute by the talented Luis Suarez and managed the game from then on. It looked like the South Americans were lacking drive when Lee Chung Yong got the equalizer around the 70th minute. It looked like Korea would work with the momentum and push forward, but it was Uruguay who woke up and put pressure on the Asian defense, and eventually got a goal, again by Suarez. In the end, Uruguay were fair winners.

The teams

Korea get out of the World Cup with their heads held high. They had an amazing run in South Africa and the likes of Park-Ji Sung, Lee Chung Yong and Park Chu-Yong proved that they can mettle with the best in the World. A potential force in Asian football could emerge if they keep up the groundwork and manage to export more players to the big leagues.

Uruguay continue to capitalize on a very sturdy defense and the amazing attacking duo of Forlan and Suarez. They’ll now be facing Ghana and they look like they have what it takes to take on the African’s physical football.
