Tottenham place ban on vuvuzelas

Tottenham has announced that vuvuzelas won’t be allowed in White Park Lane:

“We are concerned that the presence of the instruments within the stadium pose unnecessary risks to public safety and could impact on the ability of all supporters to hear any emergency safety announcements. We are very proud of the fantastic atmosphere that our supporters produce organically at White Hart Lane and we are all very much looking forward to this continuing into the forthcoming season.”

The “musical” instrument, that has been surrounded by so much controversy during the World Cup, may now be banned from many English stadiums. The FA has released a statement claiming that it’ll be each club’s choice to allow the vuvuzelas or not, and many are expected to follow the Spurs’ example, as many online poles point to the fact that most fans find the horns annoying.

The point that Tottenham make is a very good one. Football is famous for its chants, and singing is part of the beauty of the game. A constant droning sound of bees buzzing around the stadium is not.
