Fletcher and Hutton Out for Scotland

Alan Hutton and Darren Fletcher have both pulled out of Scotlands friendly against Japan, leaving the total number of players choosing to sit out this pointless fixture at 10.

Watford’s Don Cowie and Norwich City’s Stephen Hughes have been added – Craig Conway had been called up on Tuesday.

Scott Brown, Shaun Maloney and Steven Naismith pulled out on Tuesday, as did Scott Robertson, only hours after being added to the squad.

Robert Snodgrass, Kevin Thomson, Garry O’Connor and Danny Fox, exited earlier.

Scotland are 2nd in the Group 9 but have an incredible low amount of points for this position after 4 matches played. They count only 4 points and trail 1st placed Holland by 8 points. Scotland have lost on Sunday 0-3 against the Dutch in Amsterdam and return to the island to host Iceland for the 4th match-day.

Iceland have also 4 points out of 4 matches. The visitors come after a 1-2 home defeat against Faroe Islands, on Saturday, in a friendlier. The two squads already meet in this campaign and Scotland managed a 2-1 away defeat.
