Arsenal v Liverpool Live

by Rocwood on 28 October, 2009

Samir Nasri and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski could make their first starts of the season as Arsenal host Liverpool in the 4th round of the Carling Cup tonight.

Arsene Wenger will likely start with Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre in defence, sticking with his usual strategy of playing younger players in the cup games.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has said midfielder Alberto Aquilani could make his debut with Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres likely to be out. Aquilani played 15 minutes of a reserve match last week and is not fit enough to start the game, but depending how it goes there is a real possibility of him getting his first team debut from the bench.

Aquilani said:

“It was good to play for the reserves because I haven’t played for a long time, but to play for the first team is something different again and I am looking forward to that.”

Arsenal v Birmingham Live

by Rocwood on 16 October, 2009

arsenal v birminghamThe last time Arsenal met Birmingham, Eduardo ended up with a dislocated ankle and a broken leg at the hands of Martin Taylor. There is no chance of a repeat today – both players sit out through injury.

Cameron Jerome will return for Birmingham, but Christian Benitez misses out (and looks likely to be hit by a club fine) as he missed his flight home from South America.

Arsenal are missing Bendtner, Clichy, Denilson and Djourou, but Samir Nasri and Manuel Almunia are both likely to be fit.
