Newcastle may have set their bar a little high last year, but manager Alan Pardew has never wanted to walk if running is an option and will want to push on again. He has kept his star players so far against a background of sceptical noise about Mike Ashely’s intentions over the break, and Spurs are an excellent test for the 2012/2013 Magpies.
For new Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas there may be a few issues with an incomplete squad for his first match, but the players have got to know him a bit and I’m sure AVB will be confident in his side.
