Manchester United’s striker Danny Welbeck scored the only goal of the night to put his team through to the next Carling Cup round.
The home side went down to ten men after Fabio received a red card. He stumbled to tackle Kightly who was through on goal and intentionally brought him down just outside the area.
Wolves kept pressuring United’s players and had a few opportunities themselves to on goal but their attempts amounted to nothing.
Michael Owen played an excellent one-two with Danny Welbeck who was put through on goal and his well played shot hit the back of the net.
The Carling Cup winners from last year will await their next opponents in the draw on Saturday.
