Holland 3 – 0 Italy Highlights
26′ 1-0 Ruud van Nistelrooy opens the score for Netherlands from an obvious offside position.

Holland demolish Italy with a categorical 3-0 win after one of the nicest matches played at the EURO 2008. The Dutch side opened the score in the 26th minute from an offside position. Van Nistelrooy deflected a shot into the net.

After an half an hour of play Netherlands doubled their lead. They scored after a superb attack and a Buffon error, which allowed Wesley Sneijder to send the ball into the net using the close corner of the goal.

Italy raced for the equalizer but this is the type of game that Donadoni’s side doesn’t like. Toni and his mates created a few important scoring chances, but failed to beat Van der Sar.

Netherlands closed the scoreboard in the 79th minute. van Bronckhorst headed the ball into the net after another great Dutch attack. All the important events of this match are displayed in the embedded videos.

Holland 3 – 0 (2-0) Italy
26′ R.v. Nistelrooy [1 - 0]
31′ W. Sneijder [2 - 0]
79′ G.v. Bronckhorst [3 - 0]

Not offside! See the Italian player down near the left post? Ref hasn’t called an injury so he’s technically still in play, and therefore, the last defender.

shame! HUGE shame for italy! the world champions loose by THREE goals. not saying that netherlands is bad, they are a very good team. but it just shows how good cannavaro is. his absence was clearly shown. wesley sneijder and van nistelrooy: what can i say, 2 amazing player, top of the class. i dont think buffon played that bad, but the italian defence was pretty much asleep (again, prolly because of cannavaro

It should have 4-0 or 5-0, look at the misses by van the man 2, affelay crossbar, van persie close range….
Ok maybe Italy could have gotten a goal..but well done Holland.
You schooled these Italian World Champions.

First of all hello and greetz from the Netherlands.
I have been watching the duel between Holland and Italy with great eyes, because the way the dutch team played is stunning.
I also know that even with a lot of talent and high ranking players like the dutch have it is still a enormous job to maintain the level of football like the duel Netherlands VS Italy.
We have won this one in a supreme way but there is still a football team called France that is able to strike with no mercy and exactly this France team is going to duel with the Netherlands.
I did not see the duel between France and Romania, but what i have readed so far seems that it was a bad match for both.
I remember the France team as a super team that could go all the way without breaking a sweat, so this means that altrough the Italians have been beaten we still face a foe that is almost unmatched, and in my opinion the next duel will tell the story of a dutch team that has found his 1988 spirit again or a france team that shows us what football really is, because we may have a lot of nice players with lots of talents but the france team displayes a team that belongs to the absolute elites of the world…..so in other words this match will be one to watch and i like to say to everyone:
Winning from the Italians with 3.0 is super and takes more than just luck and hard football, but winning from the france team (if we can win) is a challenge that will shake and tremble the football field because if there is a reall great football team here in europa than it will be the France team.

So do not scream “the job is done” like we have done many times before but remember the reall job is still ahead.

Anyway great job

in my humble opinion,

1st goal was offside. Panucci was down and over the touch line. in football terms, that means he is not in play anymore. if you will recall, many attackers go over the touch line when they are in offside position so that their team can still attack and score if possible. so 1st goal is definitely OFF SIDE!

2nd goal i admit is a BEAUTY! such class and skill in the total football attacking.

3rd goal to me was really a giveaway. where was the defence? where was the midfield? and where was Buffon?

Disappointing show. i think Italy can start to pack their bags now.

Wow, I’ve never seen Italy get taken apart like that. Not sure about the first goal, but Holland deserved this win.

Holland played a great game at optimum capacity. Italy played a shocker but have more potential than what they displayed. The Azzurri have a great squad in attendance at this tournament. If we beat Romania, lets not pack our bags just yet.

all you retards saying the first goal was offside, if you actually read up on the rule changes that they introduced youd find that it wasnt offside. Pannuci was off the field, but because of the new rule as long as he isnt injured hes still part of the play, and the only reason he stayed down anyway is because he was trying to keep people offside, which obviously didnt work and is also why the rule was introduced in the first place.

i’m surprised that Ruud missed that shot in the 43 minute, but, it doesn’t matter. A great game played by Holland
