The match
Ghana had an amazing tactical display in the first half, got an early goal and hung onto it. In the second half, the USA came into the match with a better attitude and Donovan got a goal around the hour mark. The game was divided all the way towards the end of normal time. In extra time Ghana showed more wit and better physical condition to beat their opponents.
The teams
The USA were a little underwhelming in this championship. They came out on top of their group but not with a lot to show for, and more was expected of them in terms of attacking football. But there’s definite evolution in their playing style and, for the good of the game, I hope they keep growing.
Ghana may not play a style of football I enjoy, but you have to hand it to them. I didn’t expect them to get this far, and they’ll have a hard time against Uruguay. But it’s not an impossible mission.
