England got the win a match with two distinct halves that may have left manager Fabio Capello with more questions than answers.
The first half of this match saw a spirited performance by Egypt rewarded with a goal. England created several chances, with Rooney in good form, but failed to score. Egypt seemed to have their approach to the game well planned out, and the goal wasn’t really much of a surprise.
With the second half came changes to the England side and the game changed tone. England started putting a lot more pressure in the opposing back line and was rewarded with three goals by substitutes: one by Wright Phillips and two by big man Peter Crouch, who can now claim to have scored 20 goals in 37 matches for England – an impressive record that may see him get the starting position in the World Cup.
