A few seasons back this game had world superstars, two of the best teams in Europe and an intriguing managerial battle. The current incarnation has less of those things, with the loss of Ronaldo at United combined with a lack of replacements for ageing players, and the Chelsea owner already having sacked the man capable of dethroning Ferguson without going completely mental and poking Mike Phelan in the eye.
This is still a vital game though, and the closest Chelsea can expect to get to having a part to play in the title run-in, barring a return to form the like of which we haven’t seen since Lazarus.
