Ronaldo debuts for Corinthians

Ronaldo recently debuted for Corinthians after several months of inactivity and obesity. The former world’s best player and striker is still far away from his best shape and it seems very unlikely that he will even get near to his old shape, ever again. But considering his shape during the last summer he seems to have improved. Watch images from his debut. At least the Corinthian’s fans are excited about it. :) [click to continue…]

Finish (edited) keeper Tomi Maanoja suffers nasty leg injury

Tomi Maanoja suffered a nasty leg injury while trying to clear a loose ball. This reminds of the Djibril Cisse, Eduardo or the other ugly injuries. The bad part is that he was involved in some pre-season friendlier (edited) and according to the above images, the medical assistance seemed pretty rudimentary. Check the video and share your comments. [click to continue…]

California Dreaming Is Over?

by Yodasmog on February 17, 2009

David Beckham AC Milan Presentation£120M, 5 Years, sun, stars and celebrity. It all sounded so good………..to Posh.

Without a career to her name, being just another celebrity amongst a host of celebrities still fitted in with her idea of a dream lifestyle. It was going to be so good. She may even get her music career (stop laughing) back on track. But despite 3 kids and a few thousand miles, she still can’t over come the pull of the first love of David Beckham’s life – football.

Had he thought that there was still a future for him in international football and at Real or another major European club, there is no way on earth that any amount of pouting would have dragged Becks half way around the world to play ‘soccer’ in what is, let’s face it, the football backwater of the globe. Hell, the American’s think football is played mostly with the hands anyway so what chance does the most popular game on the planet stand against a mentality like that. [click to continue…]

Whose Game Is It Anyway?

by Yodasmog on February 7, 2009

BSkyB have regained the high ground in televised football by increasing their share of live Premiership games to more than 80%. Setanta have rights to England internationals and FA Cup matches along with ITV which means that you are more likely to see Churchill and Rolf Harris than a goal.

So, if you want to see all the live football available plus watch your team at home you are going to have to cough up somewhere in the region of £1,000 per year as a minimum. Am I the only one who thinks that this has now gone a little too far?

The advent of the Premier League and the influx of foreign players funded by the Murdoch revolution has benefited a game that was down and almost out at the end of the eighties. But the days of Cantona, Klinsmann and Zola enhancing domestically-dominated teams have long gone and we are now at a point where any English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish player is almost automatically an international if they can force themselves into the starting eleven of any top tier club so few and far between are the opportunities. Watch an astonishing indirect free kick-goal. Isn’t this an impressive achievement?

Add this video to your website, blog etc – copy and paste code

This goal was scored in the Russian (edited later) club football. The author is unknown to me, as this game has to be from the Russian (edited later) lower level divisions. But what an astonishing goal. Congrats! [click to continue…]

Incredible moments in the Eredivisie. An assistant referee was assaulted by an angry De Graafshap fan. Everything happened in last weekend’s Dutch league match played between De Graafshap and PSV Eindhoven. Watch this event in the video provided below.

The visitors where leading 2-0, as De Graafshap managed to score. The goal was not allowed because the linesman raised the flag for offside. If you check the above replay you can see that this was the right decision.

However, an angry home supporter assaulted the assistant referee and sending him to the ground. What do you think about this subject? Share your comments. [click to continue…]

You’re Not Fit To Referee

by Yodasmog on February 2, 2009

Bosingwa kicks BenayounIt’s been sung at probably every ground in the country, possibly in the world (although in a variety of languages). It’s been aimed a hundreds, nay, thousands of officials. Yet is Mike Riley possibly the most appropriate target in history?

Now, this has been coming for a while. I am in now way, shape or form a Chelsea or Liverpool fan but his performance on Sunday at Anfield highlighted not only everything that is bad about refereeing in general but also particularly what is wrong with this absolute arsehole.

As a Middlesbrough fan, from my perspective, Riley only ever had one decent game. Cardiff 2004. The Carling Cup Final when he handled Bolton’s newly-discovered ‘coming back from an offside position at a free-kick’ tactic extremely well, gave us what in hindsight was a rather generous if possibly correct penalty, allowed Bolo Zenden to strike the ball twice as he took it – not deliberately as he slipped but nevertheless still a double-touch – and finally missed a superb block in the dying seconds by Ugo Ehiogu’s left arm. I’ve seen him officiate a few Boro matches since then and he’s been absolutely diabolical on each occasion. [click to continue…]
