UEFA recently provided 6 ways to win the UEFA Cup Final!

1. Be the first to score!
In all 9 finals played in a single leg on neutral ground, 8 of the teams that opened the score, won the trophy. The only exception to this rule is TSKA Moscova. The Russian where down 0-1 at the halftime, but managed to score 3 times in the second half and defeat Sporting Lisbon.
2. Make sure that you are not defending trophy holders!
According to the stats only 2 clubs managed to defend their trophies. Real Madrid in 1985, 1986 and more recent FC Sevilla in 2006 and 2007. [click to continue…]

Werder Bremen vs Hamburger SV Live
Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV clash in the second UEFA Cup semi-final. This is a German affair. We already know that the Final will be played between and Ukrainian and a German squad. In my opinion Werder start this double leg battle as favorites, although Hamburger have a better season in the Bundesliga.
Werder Bremen will finish the domestic season out of an European Cup spot. They will do their best to win this last UEFA Cup edition and earn themselves a spot in next year’s Europe League. The two clubs played twice this season. Hamburg won the home Bundesliga game with 2-1, while Werder won away, 4-2 in the DFB Pokal.

Olympique Marseille lost tonight again against Shakhtar, 1-2 at home and suffered a poor exit from the UEFA Cup. The Ukrainians opened the score in the 30th minute and with the 2-0 home leg advantage, things where pretty clear. Ben Arfa equalized for Marseille but it only the fans seemed to still believe in their chances. On the pitch the situation did not change much and Shakhtar won after a late counter-attack.
