Bordeaux v Olympiakos Live

by Joao on 17 March, 2010

In the first leg Bordeaux held on to a precious 1-0 lead in Greece, and will now take on an Olympiakos side with a wounded pride.

Laurent Blanc’s side has been having a bad season domestically, but are looking good in the Champions League, although some claim they haven’t been truly tested against stiff competition yet. They are, however, still first in the League -but only in goal difference – and the reigning champions and their World Champion manager will still have something to say in the Ligue 1. For this match, they start ahead and are clear favorites to beat Olympiakos and move on to the next round.

The Greeks have had some bad news, as Diogo and Luciano Galletti have picked up injuries and won’t be available for this match. They come from a draw in the League, with many speculating that the squad had their minds set on this match rather than their opponent, Ergotelis. Either way, we expect a tight match between these two sides, as the French tightly organized squad faces Greek passion.

Barcelona v VfB Stuttgart Live

by Joao on 17 March, 2010

Barcelona have dropped considerably in form since last year and the 1-1 draw at Stuttgart in the first leg of this round was a symptom of that.

Guardiola’s men still play the attractive football they became worldwide famous for, but aren’t getting the same results as last year. They sit second in the Spanish League, with a very powerful Real Madrid side looking hard to beat. For this match, they have home advantage and the precious away goal, but letting their guard down is inviting an upset, and upsets are increasingly common for Spanish teams in Europe this year.

Stuttgart will have a mountain to climb in this game, but they’ll stick to what they’re good at and try to live up to their strengths. Their front line would have shamed Barcelona in Germany had they been more effective in front of goal, and Barcelona knows it.
