Worst is past in Portsmouth’s career as it seems like the team will not be wiped off the map. Still, a 9 point deduction out of their already meager total makes relegation a certainty for Pompey.
Burnley come into this match expecting what all teams that play Portsmouth expect – 3 points. And they’ll need them to stay afloat. Graham Alexander is due to return to the team after injury and Nugent won’t be playing against his parent team. Martin Paterson is set to start, which hasn’t happened since last September.
Pompey will most likely be without Frederic Piquionne, who joins Ben-Haim, Smith (groin), Boateng (ankle), Brown (back) and Mokoena (knee) in the injury list. It’ll be a hard match for the team, as every match seems to be, but despite all being all but lost, there’s still the matter of saving face, and Portsmouth, the squad, has been as gracious about this whole situation as can be.
