A terrible performance by Denmark, leaving some to wonder how they did so well in the qualifier, and others to worry about their World Cup career.
Austria were the deserved winners in a game that had all the action packed into its first half. Austria exposed Denmark’s defensive issues by scoring twice from set pieces, and threatening the danish goal on numerous occasions.
Denmark had two things to show from this match: a goal by Bendtner and a ball that hit the bar. Asides from that, there were not really much more that the Danes did. Coach Morten Olsen will regret the lack of injured players, but will above all regret that his substitutes weren’t up to par.
