Is Manchester City finally building a winning team?

In the recent past Manchester City has spent a lot of money and they haven’t got a lot to show from it. Keeping Mancini as the manager came as a surprise for some, but the club may require that kind of stability to finally put up a show in the Premier League.

But again the problem is, how does a team that isn’t participating in any UEFA competitions attract skilled players? The answer is simple: money. They have to throw it around and give players the contracts of their lifetimes.

But there’s more to building a team than getting star players, and I believe that City has finally got a man at the helm that understands that. I don’t find Mancini’s tactical style anything to brag about, but it has shown results. And the man is clearly a modern coach with a good approach to player management.

Two transfer deals, so far, strike me as being coldly opportunistic and very intelligent. Silva joins the club from a financially strained Valencia who realized they need to sell their crown jewels if they are to stay afloat. A very intelligent midfielder that covers a lot of positions in a team, Silva is not only an exciting player, he’s a player with future potential as well. The same can be said of Yaya Toure. I still can’t believe Guardiola had this guy in the bench last year playing second fiddle to Busquets. Yaya Toure has all the pace, the strenght and the positioning to be one of the best in the defensive midfield. I honestly hope he can make an impression in the Premier League.

As for future signings, maybe we should keep looking at Spain. Mourinho has finally sat down in the managerial chair at Real Madrid and will now be making tough decisions concerning squad management. In the past, former Madrid players have been released only to flourish in other teams right away (Robben and Snejder, for example), and it’s always something to be on the lookout for.
