The cold Russian winter wasn’t enough to stop Wolfsburg from grabbing a result that’ll make them favorites to move on to the next round.
It was more of a match of wits than of football, with both teams trying to keep the other under control while looking timidly for a goal. Certainly a match not worthy of two reigning league champions.
Cristian Noboa got the lead for Rubin late in the second half and, honestly, I thought the game wasn’t going to have much more to it. But in the second half, both teams tried to play at a faster pace, especially Wolfsburg, and the resulting gaps at the back made for a more interesting contest. Close to the hour mark, Zvjezdan Misimovic grabbed an equalizer for the Germans which will prove very helpful in the second leg.
