Real Madrid were put to shame against the French team, failing to reach the quarter-finals of a competition whose final will be played in their home turf. Talks that coach Pellegrini is to be booted out rise as Real’s fans are disappointed by the manner of the loss.
It started out nicely for Real with a good goal by Ronaldo. Real would go on to miss quite a few scoring chances in the first half, and they would miss those goals dearly.
Come the second half, Lyon pulled together and tightened up – and piled some pressure on Real’s defensive line. It was no surprise that they got a goal 75 minutes into the match by Miralem Pjanic. This put the French 2-1 up and with an away goal in the bag, and Real didn’t manage to break their strong defense. Lyon move on to the next round, while Real will have to focus on domestic competitions from now on.
