The argentinian superstar, as expected, was awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year award. Messi had already been awarded the prestigious Golden Ball award by France Football, often considered a prelude to this ultimate honour by FIFA. Always modest, Messi said he wanted to “share the award with all players”.
But he wasn’t the only one coming out of this cerimony with an award. Brazilian footballer Marta won the FIFA Female Player of the Year award and Cristiano Ronaldo, last year’s winner, won the Best Goal award for this:
