Liverpool travel to Sunderland today looking to get back into the Champions League places. They will have their work cut out for them as they are withou arguably their two most influental players – Stephen Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
Rafael Benitez said:
“They are both at roughly the same stage of their recovery, they are close, but they will not be ready for this match.
We are hoping both players are ready for the Champions League game against Lyon at Anfield on Tuesday.
These international breaks are always difficult for club managers, you just have to hope your players come back safely.”
Defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos sustained a bad injury to his knee in Greece’s win over Luxembourg, and looks to be out for several months.
Sunderland will be without Keiran Richardson after he was red carded against Manchester United.
