Sevilla grabs the Copa del Rey

F.C. Sevilla – 2007 Copa del Rey Winners

F.C. Sevilla have won yesterday the Spanish Cup, Copa del Rey after a 1-0 victory over Getafe. The goal was scored by Frederick Kanoute eleven minutes from time after placing the ball in the net after finding himself alone with the rival goalkeeper. The game was played at the Santiago Bernabeu with over 50,000 Sevilla fans in the stands. The difference between The Winners and Getafe was made by the Kanoute goal. The rest of the game showed a balance between the two sides.

This ends an outstanding season for Sevilla. They won the Uefa Cup for the second time in a row and now the Spanish Cup after finishing La Liga on the third place just missing the the first position by two points. I am truly impressed by this incredible season played by Sevilla. Not many teams can have such great results while playing for three trophies at the same time. They got two out of three and just missed the third. And also the 2007 Uefa Cup winners managed such a great performance without heavy investments on the transfer market. If I am not mistaking they have a $ 70 – 80 million dollar budget, compared with teams like Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid that invest four times more.

I appreciate Sevilla for managing to defend their Uefa Cup 2006 trophy. All this show that Sevilla is a great team. Let’s wait and see what they will manage next year in the Champions League.
